What is Pharmacy?
The word Pharmacy derives from the word “Pharma“. This word had first used in the 15th-17th century. Pharmacy is a branch of medical science which deals with the science and techniques of preparing and dispensing drugs. The study of medicines and drugs in terms of their usage most securely and effectively is known as Pharm. A person who practices Pharmacy is called a Pharmacist. The duties of a Pharmacist include explaining the usage and medical aspects of a medicine or a drug to the patients as per the instructions received from a doctor.
Pharmacists are the specialists and health professionals who have done their studies in medicines. They can use their knowledge of medicine for the advantage of patients. The pharmacy field can primarily divide into three disciplines Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry & Pharmacognosy and Pharmacy Practice. Pharmacy courses are available at diploma level, undergraduate level, postgraduate, doctoral levels and Eligibility Criteria with duration.
|D. Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy)||12th-grade graduates with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology subjects. candidates must be 17 years old at the time of admission in D. Pharm.||2 years|
|B. Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy)||12th-grade graduates with Physics and Chemistry as a compulsory subject along with one of the Mathematics / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Biology subjects and must obtained 50% marks in qualifying examination.|
Minimum 17 years of age and maximum 23 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission.
|M. Pharm (Master of Pharmacy)||Candidates must pass in Bachelor in Pharmacy (B. Pharm) course with not less than 50% marks is required to be eligible for this course.|
For SC/ST, there is no minimum qualifying marks.
|Pharm. D (Doctoral of Pharmacy)||Eligibility criteria for this course are 12th-grade graduates (10+2) with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with Mathematics or Biology.||6 years|
(including 1 Year of internship)
|PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences||Candidates must have a master’s degree in relevant discipline like pharmacy, science and engineering with the minimum percentage of 55% of marks in their master’s degree.|
