MCC Releases NRI Quota Eligibility Rules for NEET UG/PG Counselling 2026
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has released an important notice regarding eligibility criteria for candidates applying under the NRI quota for NEET UG and PG Counselling 2026-27.
As per the notice dated 27 May 2026, candidates claiming NRI/OCI status or seeking conversion from Indian nationality to NRI category must follow the eligibility guidelines set by the Supreme Court of India in the Anshul Tomar vs State of M.P case.
According to the guidelines, students can apply under the NRI quota if their parents or first-degree relatives are NRIs residing abroad. Certain close blood relatives such as grandparents, uncles, aunts and first cousins may also sponsor candidates under specific conditions.
MCC further clarified that candidates must provide legal and documentary proof during counselling, including evidence that the sponsor is a bona fide legal guardian under the Guardians and Wards Act, 1890. An affidavit and supporting documents will also be mandatory.
Candidates planning to participate in NEET UG/PG Counselling 2026 under the NRI quota are advised to carefully review the eligibility rules before applying.
