The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the Seat Matrix for Postgraduate (PG) seats for the academic year 2026-27, as on September 29, 2026. The Medical Assessment & Rating Board (MARB) published it through a public notice, and the NMC Secretary has forwarded it to all medical colleges and the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), DGHS.

What the Seat Matrix Contains

For each seat, the matrix lists the college code, state, institution name, category as per MCC (Government, Private or Deemed), the course name and the number of seats for 2026-27. The courses listed include M.D., M.S., diploma and super-speciality programmes.

Important Points from the NMC Notice

• The matrix is subject to revision. Changes may follow decisions of MARB, the Appeal Committee or any other competent authority. Revised matrices will be uploaded on the NMC website and used by the counselling committees of the Central and State/UT governments.
• Some seats are not included. The matrix excludes seats for applications received for an increase in intake of existing PG courses or for new PG courses in 2026-27. These will be added in a later updated matrix if approved.
• Colleges cannot exceed approved seats. Admissions must be made only against the seats approved by MARB. Admitting students beyond the approved intake violates the NMC Act, 2019, and will attract regulatory and penal action.
• Discrepancies must be reported. Errors or omissions should be reported to MARB, preferably before counselling begins, at pg-marb@nmcindia.gov.in. Counselling committees that notice a deviation must refer it to MARB immediately.
