The Department of Medical Education & Research, Government of Punjab, has released a new notification laying down the complete admission criteria for MBBS and BDS courses across Government and Private Medical/Dental Institutes in the state for the 2026 session onwards. This notification supersedes all previous admission notifications and will apply to every Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota and Minority Quota seat in Punjab.

With multiple quotas, a detailed reservation matrix, a mandatory service bond, and separate fee slabs for government, private and NRI-quota seats, the admission process can be confusing for first-time applicants. Here is a complete breakdown - and where our counsellors at RM Group of Education can step in to simplify your decision-making.

Counselling Authority

All admissions - Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota and Minority Quota - will be based on NEET UG merit, with Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, conducting centralised counselling. Of the total government seats, 15% (All India Quota) will be filled by MCC, while the remaining 85% will be filled by Punjab's own Admission Committee.

Eligibility for State Quota

A candidate qualifies for Punjab's state quota if they are a Citizen of India and meet at least one of the following:

  • Passed 10+1 and 10+2 from a school in Punjab, or
  • Were born in Punjab, or
  • Are a permanent resident of Punjab (including children of Punjab/Central Government employees posted in the state, children of Punjab pensioners, or residents of at least 5 years)

Wards of defence personnel, NRI category candidates and minority community candidates are also eligible for the respective reserved seats.

Not sure if you qualify for state quota or need to apply as an open/NRI candidate? RM Group of Education verifies your eligibility documents and domicile status before you begin the application, saving you from rejection at the final verification stage.
