The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME), Tamil Nadu, has clarified that the state's MBBS and BDS counselling process for the 2026-27 academic session will continue under the existing counselling policy, despite the recent changes introduced by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota (AIQ) admissions.

The clarification, issued on August 3, 2026, follows MCC's announcement of several updates to its AIQ counselling process, including the introduction of Freeze and Float options, online document verification for Float candidates without initial physical reporting and a digital seat surrender system.

Existing Tamil Nadu Counselling Process to Continue

According to the Selection Committee, Tamil Nadu already has well-established counselling procedures in place and the state will continue to follow them during the 2026-27 admission cycle.

Centralised Document Verification

The state follows a centralised document verification system in which candidate's uploaded certificates are verified during the application process. Physical verification of original documents is carried out at the allotted institution at the time of admission.

Online Seat Resignation

Tamil Nadu already provides an online seat resignation facility. Candidates who are eligible to resign from their allotted seats must complete the process only through the official counselling portal. Offline resignation requests will not be accepted.

Upgradation Facility

The state will also continue its existing upgradation process, allowing eligible candidates to upgrade their allotment from Round 1 to Round 2 and Round 3, as specified in the State Prospectus.

Counselling Policy Remains Unchanged

The Selection Committee has confirmed that admissions under the Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority Quota, and NRI Quota for MBBS and BDS courses will be conducted strictly in accordance with the relevant Government Orders and the provisions mentioned in the Tamil Nadu NEET UG 2026-27 State Prospectus.

The committee further stated that while the state counselling policy remains unchanged this year, any future changes to align with the national counselling framework will be considered only after evaluating the interests of students. Such changes, if introduced, will be announced well in advance.
