The Tamil Nadu Directorate of Medical Education has released the tentative vacancy position for MBBS and BDS degree courses for the 2026–27 academic session, based on the vacancy status as of 13 August 2026. The document covers government medical colleges, ESIC medical colleges, self-financing medical colleges and dental colleges across the state.

Government Medical Colleges – MBBS

The tentative vacancy list includes 4,048 MBBS seats under the Government Quota across Tamil Nadu's government medical colleges. The list covers 36 government medical colleges, including Madras Medical College, Stanley Medical College, Kilpauk Medical College, Madurai Medical College, Tirunelveli Medical College and Coimbatore Medical College.

Among the major colleges, Stanley Medical College, Chennai has 197 listed seats, while Tirunelveli Medical College also has 197 seats. Madras Medical College and Madurai Medical College have 196 seats each, while Coimbatore Medical College has 157 seats.

ESIC Medical College MBBS Seats

The vacancy position also includes 90 MBBS seats at ESI-PGIMSR, ESI Hospital, K.K. Nagar, Chennai, under the Government Quota.

Self-Financing Medical Colleges

The document lists tentative MBBS vacancies across self-financing medical colleges, covering Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority and NRI seats. The combined total shown for the self-financing MBBS section is 3,350 seats.

Institutions included in the list include PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Christian Medical College Vellore, Tagore Medical College and Hospital, Velammal Medical College, Panimalar Medical College Hospital & Research Institute and Swamy Vivekanandha Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, among others.

A separate section for private medical colleges lists 575 seats across three institutions, including Sri Venkateswaraa Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Kanyakumari Medical Mission Research Center and Takshashila Medical College.

BDS Vacancy Position

For government dental colleges, the tentative vacancy list shows 197 BDS seats across three institutions: Tamil Nadu Government Dental College & Hospital, Chennai; Government Dental College, Pudukkottai and Government Dental College and Hospital, Cuddalore.

The self-financing dental college section lists a combined 1,662 BDS seats, covering Government Quota, Management Quota, Minority and NRI categories.

IRT Ward Quota

The document also includes 30 MBBS seats under the IRT Ward Quota at Government Erode Medical College & Hospital, Perundurai.
