Maulana Azad Dental College Delhi is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first education minister of independent India. The institute has seen many important events. Baron Irwin, the British Viceroy of India, started Irwin Hospital on January 10, 1930. It opened a few years later. Health Minister D.P. Karmarkaran opened the current O.P.D. block on April 5, 1961. The hospital’s name was changed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital on December 6, 1997.
