“There is no clear rationale for the grace marks awarded to students. No detailed list has been provided regarding the distribution of grace marks. Additionally, the justification for granting these marks as a time-saving measure was never disclosed in the information bulletin prior to the exam,” the plea stated, noting that 67 students from a single center achieved perfect scores of 720.

The plea also mentioned that the provisional answer key released by the NTA selected correct answers from the options given to candidates, but over 13,000 students contested the key, claiming that their textbooks indicated different answers.

Emphasizing that cheating can have dire consequences for students, the plea stated, “Cheating in entrance exams undermines the principles of meritocracy and equal opportunities, which are crucial for promoting social mobility and ensuring fairness in society.”

“It exacerbates inequalities by benefiting those who can afford to pay for leaked exam papers or engage in fraudulent activities, while disadvantaging those who rely on their hard work and merit to succeed, ultimately impacting society as a whole,” the plea reads.

“Proficiency in the medical field requires a comprehensive and thorough understanding of scientific and medical knowledge. Cheating or using unfair means to pass exams can result in a lack of competence, potentially jeopardizing the health and lives of patients,” the plea stated.

All petitions filed with the Supreme Court have raised concerns about a question paper leak from the May 5 exam.

On May 17, the Supreme Court issued a notice but did not halt the declaration of the results.

Meanwhile, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has decided to establish a high-powered committee to review the grievances of 1,600 students who took the NEET 2024 exam.
