Newly Established Medical Colleges in Uttar Pradesh

The Uttar Pradesh government is planning to inaugurate 14 new medical colleges. The Medical Education Department has formally requested approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC), which regulates medical education nationwide, to carry out campus inspections. If granted, this could add approximately 1,400 MBBS seats to the current 8,000 seats in the state.

These new medical colleges are set to be established in various districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Kushinagar, Kaushambi, Sultanpur, Amethi, Kanpur Dehat, Lalitpur, Pilibhit, Oraiya, Sonbhadra, Bulandshahr, Gonda, Bijnor, Chandauli, and Lakhimpur Kheri.

Currently, the state has 3,828 MBBS seats in government colleges and 4,700 seats in private colleges. Last year, Uttar Pradesh launched nine new colleges.

If the 14 new medical colleges receive approval, there will be a total of 19,376 vacant positions for teachers and staff to be filled. Of these, 9,954 positions will be filled through direct recruitment, 56 positions will be filled through deputation, and 9,366 positions will be filled through outsourcing. Each medical college will have 112 positions for Assistant Professors, Professors, and Physicists. Additionally, there will be 446 positions for Senior Residents, Junior Residents, and Medical Officers, as well as 110 positions each for Chief Pharmacists, Dental Technicians, Pharmacists, and non-technical staff.
