Uttar Pradesh Welcomes 7 New Medical Colleges, Adding 600 MBBS Seats
02 Aug, 2024

In a significant development for NEET UG 2024 aspirants, seven out of 13 newly established medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh have received recognition from the National Medical Commission (NMC). This approval will add 600 MBBS seats for the upcoming academic session, offering more opportunities for students seeking admission to medical courses.

Among the newly recognized institutions, the autonomous state medical colleges in Kanpur Dehat and Lalitpur have been allocated 50 seats each, while the colleges in Bijnor, Bulandshahr, Kushinagar, Pilibhit, and Sultanpur have each been granted 100 seats.

The NEET UG counselling is proposed to begin on August 14. Initially, the NMC had withheld recognition for all 13 new medical colleges due to changes in its regulatory guidelines. However, following direct intervention by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who engaged with Union Health Minister JP Nadda, the issue was revisited.

Acting on the instructions of Principal Secretary Medical Education Partha Sarathi Sen Sharma, the colleges appealed against the NMC’s initial decision. Following a thorough hearing, the NMC granted recognition to seven out of the 13 colleges. Unfortunately, the remaining colleges in Chandauli, Gonda, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sonbhadra, Auraiya, and Kaushambi were unable to meet the revised criteria and did not receive approval.

Seat Allocation for Recognized Colleges:

  • Bijnor: 100 seats
  • Bulandshahr: 100 seats
  • Kanpur Dehat: 50 seats
  • Kushinagar: 100 seats
  • Lalitpur: 50 seats
  • Pilibhit: 100 seats
  • Sultanpur: 100 seats

This expansion is expected to significantly benefit NEET UG candidates, providing them with more options and enhancing the overall medical education infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh.
