NEET UG Cut-Off Trends 2026

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the NEET UG 2026 qualifying cut-off along with the Re-NEET UG result on July 16, 2026. This year's cut-off has increased significantly compared to 2025, marking a major shift in the qualifying trend. The General/EWS qualifying cut-off now stands at 213 marks (50th percentile), compared to 144 marks in 2025, reflecting a 69-mark increase.

The rise in the qualifying marks comes after the cancellation of the original May 3, 2026 examination and the successful conduct of the Re-NEET UG exam on June 21, 2026. Experts believe the moderate difficulty level of the re-exam and the shorter result timeline contributed to the higher qualifying scores.

Why Has the Cut-Off Increased?

The General category qualifying score has increased by nearly 69 marks compared to last year. Education experts attribute this rise to:

Study MBBS Abroad 2025-26, Fees 2 lakh Per Year.

  • A comparatively moderate difficulty level in the June 21 Re-NEET examination.
  • Better overall candidate performance.
  • Faster evaluation and result processing after the re-exam.

The reserved category cut-offs have also increased, indicating stronger overall competition across categories.

Qualifying Cut-Off Does Not Guarantee Admission

Students should remember that qualifying the NEET UG cut-off only makes them eligible to participate in counselling. Admission to MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses depends on factors such as:

  • All India Rank (AIR)
  • Category Rank
  • Seat availability
  • Choice filling
  • College-wise closing ranks

Candidates are advised to compare their rank instead of only marks while preparing their counselling strategy, as the competition level differs every year.

What Should Candidates Do Next?

Students who have qualified should:

  • Download and verify their NEET UG 2026 scorecard.
  • Check their All India Rank and category rank.
  • Keep all required documents ready for counselling.
  • Register for MCC AIQ Counselling and respective state counselling once the schedule is announced.
  • Shortlist colleges based on previous year's closing ranks rather than qualifying marks alone.

With counselling expected to begin in the coming weeks, candidates are encouraged to stay updated with official notifications and prepare their college preferences carefully.
