NMC Releases 2026 Practice Rule Changes

NMC 2026 Draft Amendment: National Medical Commission (NMC) has released a draft amendment notification (2026) for the Registration of Medical Practitioners and Licence to Practice Medicine Regulations. The notification was officially published in the Gazette on April 7, 2026, inviting feedback from stakeholders across India.

Key Highlights of the NMC Draft Amendment 2026

  • Special Provisions for Armed Forces Doctors (AFMS):
    Medical practitioners serving under Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) can now:
    • Register with one State Medical Council of their choice
    • Practice across all states and union territories during service
  • License Validity Relaxation:
    AFMS doctors’ licenses will not become inactive due to delays in renewal submissions.
  • No License Transfer Requirement:
    Doctors in AFMS are exempted from transferring licenses while serving.
  • Recognition of Additional Qualifications:
    Any additional medical qualification registered will be valid nationwide during service.
  • New Rule on Medical Misconduct (Regulation 10A):
    • Jurisdiction will lie with the State Medical Council where the doctor is registered
    • Complaints can be investigated in the state where the incident occurred and then forwarded

Public Feedback Window

The NMC has allowed 30 days from the date of publication for stakeholders to submit objections and suggestions via email.
